Old specification or pre 95 guns can be stripped, the action cocked and dry fired, and in the case of revolvers, have clear cartridge chambers. New specification deactivated guns cannot be cocked or dry fired, and usually, not stripped. Bolt action rifles however do still cock and dry fire but cannot take deactivated rounds in the breech. New spec Light to heavy machine guns can also be cocked and dry fired but again cannot take deactivated rounds in the breech.
